Meta is integrating Quest headsets with support for the iPhone 15 Pro’s spatial videos

Meta has announced that the Meta Quest Build 62.0 software update would enable support for the playing of Spatial movies shot on the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max to the Quest 3, Quest Pro, and Quest 2 headsets, beginning on February 7, 2024. The announcement follows the release of the Apple Vision Pro, the only other mixed-reality (MR) headset that enables the streaming of Spatial films produced with the two phones.

After updating your Meta headset to Meta Quest Build 62.0, you will be able to transfer Spatial movies from your iPhone 15 Pro or iPhone 15 Pro Max to the Meta headset using the Meta Quest mobile app. Keep in mind that the three headsets will support spatial films lasting up to 20 minutes. Meta is also releasing example Spatial films with the next release, which can be found “in the Spatial videos section of the Files app.”

What is a spatial video?

A spatial video is a three-dimensional (3D) video that includes depth information about objects in a scene to create a 3D effect. When you play a Spatial film on mixed-reality headsets, such as the Apple Vision Pro or three Meta headsets, you will be able to distinguish between foreground, midground, and background items in a scene, providing a 3D viewing experience. When you play this movie on another device, such as a smartphone, laptop, or television, it will appear as a standard, two-dimensional (2D) video.
