Over the past few weeks, we were hearing news about Facebook’s new name. The company finally announced it on Thursday, October 28th. The company has now a new name – Meta.
Announcing the new brand name at his company’s Connect event, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said:
We are a company that builds technology to connect,
Together, we can finally put people at the center of our technology. And together, we can unlock a massively bigger creator economy.
To reflect who we are and what we hope to build,
Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg
Being a bigger group now, the company needed a new name that could incorporate everything it own – Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Oculus. That brings the idea to call Facebook with a new name – Meta. The company has changed only its company name, the app will still be called Facebook.
Everything that Facebook owns now comes right under the brand Meta, following the same structure but a different reporting system:
Starting with our results for the fourth quarter of 2021, we plan to report on two operating segments: Family of Apps and Reality Labs
Mark Zuckerberg
The former will incorporate the apps we all love (or hate), the latter will work on newer technologies.
Besides changing the company name, Zuckerberg also talked about new technologies and plans in the Connect event held on October 28th, Thursday. You can view the recorded event here:
