Meta is working on Artificial General Intelligence (AGI)
Throughout 2023, several companies adopted AI in one form or another. Most of the companies are focused on conversational AI. They are interested in offering products and services with the incorporation of generative AI. However, it appears like one of the tech companies has some different plans. We are talking about Meta. According to some recent pieces of information, Meta is focusing on artificial general intelligence (AGI).
The recent information was shared by company’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, in a reel. He shared that Meta is working on AGI. At times, AGI is often referred to as human-level AI. Reportedly, FAIR and GenAI, the AI research teams at Meta, are working on the development of AGI. Interestingly, the new model will be open source.
Mark Zuckerberg mentioned in the video that it is part of Meta’s vision to build an open-source AGI. We want to assure you that it is available to everyone. We’re presently training our next-generation model, Llama 3, and we’re constructing a vast computational infrastructure to support our roadmap. By the end of this year, we’ll have 350k H100s, or around 600k H100s equivalents, when additional GPUs are taken into account. I’m also quite enthusiastic about our advancements in creating new AI-focused gadgets, such as the Ray-Ban Meta smart spectacles. Many more will be released shortly.
This information follows Yann LeCun, head scientist at Meta, who voiced doubts in December about the impending arrival of AI superintelligence. According to the French computer scientist, decades remain before we see any resemblance of awareness in contemporary AI systems. LeCun further stated that it is more likely that we will attain AI intelligence on par with that of cats or dogs years before we do so on par with humans.
