Meta Updates Livestream Video Storage on Facebook: Here’s What You Need to Know

Meta is rolling out a new update for livestream videos on Facebook, aiming to align with industry standards and improve user experience. Starting February 19th, livestream videos will only be available for 30 days before being automatically deleted. This marks a major change, as previously, livestream videos were stored indefinitely on the platform.

According to Facebook’s official blog, “These changes will align our storage policies with industry standards and help ensure we are providing the most up-to-date live video experiences for everyone on Facebook.” The deletion process has already started in stages and will continue over the coming months.

What This Means for Facebook Users

With the new update, users will be able to replay, download, or share livestream videos for 30 days after uploading. After this period, the videos will be automatically deleted unless users take action to save or defer them. Don’t worry—Meta is providing tools to help users manage their older livestream content before it’s gone.

If you receive a notification about the deletion of your videos, you’ll have 90 days to decide what to do with them. You can download, transfer, or convert them into reels. Alternatively, Facebook offers a “Defer Deletion” option that gives you six additional months to decide before the videos are permanently removed.

Ways to Save Your Livestream Videos

Meta has outlined multiple methods for saving your livestreamed videos. Here’s a guide to help you make the most of your content.

Single Download

To save a specific video, go to your profile or Meta Business Suite. Select the video, open it in full-screen view, and click “Download.”

Bulk Download

For downloading multiple videos, click on the notification in your device, then select “Download Live Videos.” Choose the file location, set the date range for the videos you want to download, and create the file.

Transfer Live Videos

Want to move your videos to cloud storage? Tap the notification to enter the download flow, then select “Transfer Live Videos.” Choose your cloud storage provider, like Google Drive or Dropbox, and hit “Save.”

Convert to Reels

If you want to preserve special moments, you can clip highlights from your livestreams and combine them into reels. This is a great way to save key moments while giving them a fresh and shareable format.

Stay Notified and Take Action

Facebook will send you notifications before any videos are deleted, so keep an eye out. Whether you choose to download, transfer, or convert your content, these tools make it easy to manage your livestream videos while staying in control of your digital memories.
