Microsoft Confirms End of Support for Windows 11 23H2 in November 2025

Microsoft has now reminded that Windows 11 version 23H2 in the home and pro editions will reach the end of update support on November 11, 2025. After this date there are no regular security updates for remaining users.
Support end for millions of Windows 11 users
Version 23H2 was released in October 2023. The version of the version follows the usual two-year life cycle for all Windows consumer editions. The end of support probably affects millions of users worldwide, there are no official figures on the user base. While the end of support for home and pro editions has already been determined, the commercial versions show a different picture.
Different support cycles per edition
According to the Windows Release Health Dashboard In contrast, from Microsoft, Enterprise and Education editions remain in mainstream support until November 10, 2026. The different Windows 11 editions follow different support periods. Commercial editions such as Enterprise and Education receive updates for 36 months from the release date, while consumer versions are only supported for 24 months. Microsoft has already established this practice in previous Windows versions.
Windows 11 24H2 as a recommended successor
Affected users are to upgrade to Windows 11 24H2, which has been generally available since October 2024. This version brings with it numerous innovations, including improved AI integration, new copilot features and extended security functions. According to Microsoft Learn, customers who are looking for technical help after the support end are directly asked to update their system. However, the update to 24h2 is not possible for all users without any problems. Microsoft has set up compatibility blocks for devices with certain audio problems, camera functions and other hardware conflicts. These so-called Safeguard Holds still affect thousands of users with specific device and software configurations.
Compatibility problems delay rollout
Windows 11 24H2 may not show the update for all devices when Microsoft detects incompatibilities. The known problems include conflicts with certain webcam software, audio drivers and older applications. The Safeguard Holds are gradually lifted as soon as Microsoft has developed solutions for the respective problems. Users can check the update status of your device via the Windows update settings or use alternative installation methods such as the Media Creation Tool.
Further Microsoft products reach the end of support
In addition to Windows 11 23h2, Windows 11 22h2 editions also reach their support on October 14th. This version was the first major update of Windows 11 and brought important features such as tabs in the file explorer and improved Snap layouts. Microsoft has also announced that Windows 11 SE will not be updated to version 25H2 and will be completely discontinued in October 2026. Windows 11 SE had been specially developed for the education sector and should be an alternative to Chrome OS, but could not achieve the hoped -for market penetration.
