Microsoft Fixes Media Creation Tool Bug Blocking Windows 11 on Arm PCs

After the launch of Windows 11 version 25H2 at the end of September, some users reported problems with the Media Creation Tool – the official application that can be used to create installation media and boot sticks for Windows. Now there is an update.

Microsoft fixes bugs in the Media Creation Tool

On devices with Arm64 processors, the tool refused to work completely and acknowledged the start attempt with an error message: “We’re not sure what happened, but we’re unable to run this tool on your PC. / We don’t know exactly what happened, but we can’t run this tool on your PC.” Microsoft has now fixed the error. With the optional update KB5067036 for Windows 11 version 24H2 and 25H2, the media creation tool works as usual again. The fix affects version 26100.6584, originally released on September 29, 2025.

The update is available for manual download via Windows Settings. Users must click on “Check for updates” under Settings → Windows Update and then install the optional update offered. The fix will also be integrated into the upcoming regular Patch Day updates, which will be distributed automatically starting November 11th.

In addition to the repaired media creation tool, KB5067036 also brings a number of new functions and visual improvements: For the first time, users receive the revised start menu as well as a new battery symbol in the taskbar and on the lock screen. Owners of a Copilot+ PC also benefit from improvements to “Click to Do”, optimized voice control and adjustments in the file explorer. Some of these innovations will be rolled out gradually.
