Microsoft Makes It Easier to Unlink Your Phone From Phone Link

Phone Link is a great tool for syncing your Windows PC with your phone, but Microsoft’s decisions around it haven’t always made sense. For example, if you wanted to unlink a phone, you couldn’t do it directly from Windows—you had to remove it from your Microsoft account instead. Thankfully, Microsoft is finally fixing this with a new feature that’s currently in testing.

Unlink Your Phone Without the Hassle

As reported by Windows Latest, removing a device from Phone Link hasn’t been an easy process. While it used to be possible to unlink a phone directly within Windows, Microsoft inexplicably removed that option a few months ago. Since then, the only way to remove a device was to log into your Microsoft account and do it there—not exactly user-friendly.

Fortunately, that’s about to change. According to PhantomOfEarth, Microsoft is testing a new feature that adds a simple button to unlink a phone directly from Phone Link. This streamlined process will save users from the hassle of navigating their Microsoft account just to remove a device. The feature is still in testing, so it might take some time before it rolls out to everyone, but it’s a step in the right direction.

A Push for Better Phone-PC Integration

This update could be part of a larger effort by Microsoft to encourage seamless integration between phones and PCs. Recently, we even saw iPhone integration with the Windows 11 Start menu, signaling that Microsoft is focused on improving cross-device functionality. Hopefully, this is just the beginning of many improvements to make Phone Link more intuitive and convenient for users.

Good things are on the horizon—stay tuned!
