Microsoft now makes Windows 11 Ki-Fit for developers

Microsoft has announced extensive innovations for Windows in the field of artificial intelligence on Build 2025. The focus is on the new “Windows Ai Foundry” – a platform that is intended to make it easier for developers access to AI functions.

Microsoft introduces new AI platform for Windows

Windows Ai Foundry, a further development of the Windows Copilot Runtime, is intended to offer developers a uniform and reliable framework for the entire AI development cycle. From the model selection to optimization to fine-tuning and provision- both at the Cloud level. “We want to democratize to develop and use groundbreaking AI experiences,” explains Pavan Davuluri, Corporate Vice President for Windows and Devices. “Windows is said to be the best platform for developers built for the new AI age.”

The platform supports various hardware partners such as AMD, Intel, Nvidia and Qualcomm and enables AI models to be used on CPUs, GPUs and NPUs. Developers can quickly access catalogs such as Foundry Local, Ollama and Nvidia Nims to the ready-to-use open source models. Finished AI interfaces for language processing and image analysis are particularly interesting for application developers.

New functions such as Lora (low-rank adaptation) enable the fine-tuning of the built-in language model Phi Silica with custom data. In addition, new APIs are introduced for semantic searches and knowledge calls that enable natural language search functions in apps.

Microsoft also prepares Windows 11 for a future with AI agents. The new Model Context Protocol (MCP) offers a standardized frame in which AI agents can interact with native Windows applications. Windows apps can make certain functions accessible to agents, which means that they can expand their skills. This function will be available for selected partners in a private developer preview in the coming months. For more security, Microsoft introduces the VBS Enclave SDK, with which applications can protect their data from attacks by malware or malicious administrators.

The Microsoft Store now offers free account registration for individual developers, a new Fasttrack program for Win32 apps and an app campaign program to increase the user acquisition. “This is just the beginning of our trip,” emphasizes Davuluri. “We look forward to continuing to work with our developer and MVP community in order to promote innovations on our platform and enable experiences that enable everyone around the world.”
