Microsoft Releases Emergency Windows 11 Update to Fix Game Crashes

Microsoft has released an unscheduled update for Windows 11 version 24H2. This is intended to fix a specific compatibility problem with certain games, which led to the start of the games to crash the operating system.
Not finished on patchday
Just a day earlier, on Tuesday, the company distributed the monthly security and quality updates for all supported Windows versions-including Windows 10. But some users of Windows 11 went away empty-handed, especially those who installed games with the so-called Easy Anti-Cheat service. The newly published update with the identifier KB5063060 (Build 26100.4351) is now aimed specifically at this user group. According to Microsoft, a mistake in regular Juni update (KB5060842) led to the fact that systems restarted unexpectedly when games started with Easy Anti-Cheat. The affected service is used by many multiplayer games to prevent cheating and improve security in online game operations.
In the official comments on the update, Microsoft explains that KB5063060 eliminates the problem and that affected users now also grants access to the KB5060842 security update. Since it is a cumulative update, all previous fixes are included – including the security -relevant updates of this month.
Some problems remain
Despite this hot fixes, there is another problem that already knows: On devices with Intel processors of the Alder-Lake+series and VPR-Technology, games that Easy Anti-Cheat use can fall to system crashes. Microsoft points out that this problem can be mitigated to a current version of the anti-cheat service by updating the played games. However, the corresponding compatibility lock remains active. The update KB5060842 is now also regularly available for download via Windows Update and the Microsoft Update catalog. Gamers should therefore bring both their games and the operating system up to date to avoid stability problems.
