Microsoft Rewards: Account Blockage is a Glitch

Microsoft Rewards users can breathe a sigh of relief: the sudden account suspensions that users were wondering about were a mistake. Microsoft has recognized the problem. Affected accounts should be automatically reactivated shortly.

Numerous users of the Microsoft Rewards program experienced an unpleasant surprise at the start of the year: their accounts were suddenly blocked for no apparent reason. There was great confusion and concern among those affected, but now the all-clear has been given.

The wave of bans apparently affected a significant number of users. There have been increasing reports of unexplained account suspensions on social media and forums (via PureXbox). Many participants in the bonus program initially feared that they had violated the terms of use, even though they were not aware of any wrongdoing. Microsoft has now officially confirmed that the bans were a mistake. In one Statement at X said the company:

This morning we noticed an issue where some Microsoft Rewards accounts were being incorrectly suspended. We’ve deployed a fix and all affected accounts should be back online in the next few hours. Thank you for your understanding as we address this issue. Microsoft

The Microsoft Rewards program is particularly popular with Xbox users. It allows participants to earn points through various activities, which can then be exchanged for rewards. Some of the most attractive rewards include Xbox gift cards and Xbox Game Pass subscription renewals.

As a rule of thumb: around 1000 points correspond to a value of around one euro when redeemed for gift vouchers. There are even game-specific options for particularly avid collectors. For example, users can receive an accelerated Diablo 4 Battle Pass worth around 24 euros for 22,500 points.

Collecting points made easy

To benefit from the program, users can collect points in various ways:

Use the Bing search engine: Every search earns five points, up to 150 points per day.
Digital purchase of Xbox games: One point is earned for every euro spent.
Microsoft Rewards app on Xbox: Offers various tasks and rewards for playing specific titles.

The rewards program was initially launched in 2010 under the name Bing Rewards and was renamed Microsoft Rewards in 2016. It is part of Microsoft’s strategy to increase user loyalty and make its services more attractive. Problems such as sudden account closures have occurred several times – and were quickly resolved.
