Microsoft starts optional April updates For Windows 10/11
Microsoft has published new preview updates for its operating systems. While Windows 10 surprisingly receives security improvements, there are some new functions for Windows 11. However, version 24h2 goes away empty -handed.
Microsoft delivers preview updates
On April 22, 2025, Microsoft has new optional preview updates for Windows 10 version 22H2 (KB5055612) as well as Windows 11 version 22H2 and 23H2 (KB5055629) published. These so-called C-updates contain corrections and improvements that can first be tested before they are rolled out as regular updates for all users in the following month. It is noteworthy that no update was published for Windows 11 version 24H2 this time.
Windows 10 with unusual improvements
With the update, Microsoft fixes a problem with the GPU paravirtualization in the Windows Subsystem for Linux 2 (WSL2), in which the review incorrectly differentiated between the upper and small writing, which could lead to the failure of the GPU support. It is unusual for an optional update that KB5055612 also contains safety improvements for Windows 10. The highlights include new pivot-based curated views in the file explorer, which are intended to make access to Microsoft 365 content easier, as well as an improved performance when unpacking ZIP files.
Users also receive new functions for linking with mobile devices via Windows Phone Link directly from the start menu, which have been moved again and again. This includes phone calls, SMS shipping and access to photos between PC and smartphone.
The widget system has also been expanded. So web developers can now create interactive widgets, and the European economic zone supports support for blocking screen widgets. Windows 11 24H2 stops
The lack of an update for Windows 11 version 24H2 is striking. This latest version of the operating system does not receive a preview update in the current cycle. So far, Microsoft has not made any official explanation for this. Either there are no critical problems that require immediate remedy, or a separate update is published at a later date.
Installation of the updates
The optional updates are not automatically installed by default, but must be downloaded manually using the Windows update.
