Microsoft Surface Go 2 Rumored To Hit Shelves In Coming Weeks

Microsoft’s Surface Go 2 could be about to go on sale, at least according to latest rumors. Microsoft is about to announce the Surface Go 2 in the ‘coming weeks,’ according to insider sources who talked to MS Power User, and the hope is that the updated convertible will go on sale in May.

Obviously this is all speculation, but there are reasons to believe that a launch is on the near horizon. First, it was previously speculated that in the spring of 2020, Microsoft would hold a Surface event, but this was apparently disrupted by the coronavirus outbreak.

The hope is that we will still get a launch, an online event, and this is reinforced by the fact that the original Surface Go is now being sold out on the Microsoft Store (with the inventory likely to be cleared before a new model is launched). That’s in the US – the UK store still has some stock left, but it doesn’t have the cheapest entry-level model.

The CPUs allegedly to be used in the new Surface Go 2 include the Pentium 4425Y and Intel Core m3-8100Y, which are at this point fairly obsolete versions (the latter is two-year-old, an 8th-gen part). And, in short, in terms of a performance improvement we are not expecting big results.

That said, the Surface Go is designed as an inexpensive computer, and as such, the specifications will never set the world on fire.  

One thing, if it ever comes in, the Surface Go 2 will probably take a leaf out of the latest surface devices from Microsoft (except the Surface Pro 7) and be more carefully built when it comes to repairs.
