More ads are appearing in search suggestions on Google Play Store
On the Play Store, Google is displaying ads in search suggestion boxes. Many users have complained about seeing app and game advertisements when trying to search for something. At least since November of last year, the firm has been creating the foundation for this.
In the beginning, the company referred to the ads in the Play Store search menu as an organic discovery feature. Google mentioned that the apps appearing in search results were unpaid. It regarded them as proactive recommendations. The apps were in consistent with users’ interests like major updates, upcoming or ongoing events, and offers. Google wanted to draw attention to them when users might be about to search for them anyway.
It now appears that things have changed. As they don’t appear to be organic anymore. They appear like paid ads as the recommendations are labeled with the words “Ad”. Although not all but some are surely ads. Since some of them represent the Ad label while others could be the organic suggestions as the company initially described them.
As a part of this strategy, the suggested apps are presented with detailed information. They show the publisher’s name, ratings, and total installments. Initially, in the November test run only titles were shown. The amount of information shown doesn’t vary between an ad or a proactive organic suggestion.
Google might begin a massive rollout of ads in Play Store search suggestions
As of now, nothing has been officially shared by the company yet. However, some users have confirmed the visibility of ads in the last few days. It looks like that Google is all set for a wide rollout of the feature that it has been testing under a different mark for a few months now.
Well, this is not surprising at all. Since the company generates a large sum of its revenue from ad business. It looks like that the company is just adding another stream to generating revenue to cover the losses imposed by third-party billing systems in some regions. If this is true, then the feature might roll out globally soon.
