Amazon made a major blunder in the run-up to the theatrical release of the new action film “The Mutiny” starring Jason Statham. The film was available to stream via Prime Video for US customers two days before its official release.

The film, in which action star Jason Statham plays the lead role, was temporarily shown in full length on the Prime Video streaming platform. The film is actually scheduled to hit theaters in the United States in two days. Like US Magazine The Verge Reportedly, “The Mutiny” was readily available on Amazon Prime Video to an unknown number of users and could be viewed at its full running time of one hour and 35 minutes. It is still unclear how the error could have occurred. The film is now no longer available via the streaming portal.
The entry for “The Mutiny” available on Amazon Prime Video already contained all the details about the film, including information about the actors involved, the plot and also a preview image. According to colleagues at The Verge, it is extremely unlikely that this is some kind of publicity stunt. The background is that neither the production companies involved, Punch Palace and MadRiver Pictures, nor the American distributor of the film, Lionsgate, belong to the Amazon empire. However, Lionsgate and Amazon have an exclusive deal in which the rental company’s films are only offered via streaming on Prime Video.
It is still unclear when the film was first made available on Amazon Prime Video. At Reddit Users discuss that the film was available to all Prime subscribers for several hours. Individual users also report that the film was even freely available to users without an active Prime Video subscription, although no advertising was supposedly displayed. The Listing of the film on Amazon Prime Video US is still accessible, but shows the film as “currently unavailable”.
