Netflix’s Squid Game series, which tells the story of people risking their lives and sometimes killing each other on TV to pay off their debts, will soon be a real game show.
Despite the recent announcement of a second season for Squid Game, Netflix now wants to turn Netflix into a real show. As part of an effort to monetize the most popular TV series it has ever produced, Netflix is recruiting participants for a reality show based on Squid Game.
Titled Squid Game: The Challenge, the show will feature 456 players competing for $4.56 million who will make Reality TV’s biggest prize pool This wouldn’t be the first time we’ve had the chance to see people participate in the games present in the series such as 1, 2, 3, Suns, as the Youtuber MrBeast already had the Netflix series in real-world conditions counterfeited at the end of last year with a price of $456,000. In his new game, Netflix, therefore, offers the winner 10 times higher amount.
In the press release, Netflix indicated that the new series “Squid Game: The Challenge” will run for 10 episodes and that contestants will compete in a series of games inspired by the original series. Thus, Netflix is in full recruitment of 456 participants. The platform announces that everyone can participate, provided that it is in English.
“Squid Game has taken the world by storm with director Hwang’s captivating story and iconic imagery. We are grateful for their support as we make the fictional world a reality in this massive competition and social experiment,” Brandon Riegg, Netflix vice president for unscheduled series and documentaries, said in a statement. “Fans of the drama series will experience a fascinating and unpredictable journey as our 456 real-life contestants navigate the biggest competition series ever, full of suspense and twists, with the largest cash prize ever won at the end.”
Netflix has not announced when the series will be released, but the casting site says that players will probably have to be available for competition in “early 2023” Fortunately, Netflix makes it clear that, unlike the Squid Game series, players will come out of the competition “unscathed.”
