Netflix unveils the first teaser trailer for Terminator Zero
Netflix has released the first teaser trailer for Terminator Zero. In the animated series, a scientist tries to complete an AI that rivals Skynet, but is also hunted by a killer from the future.
Terminator series without Schwarzenegger
The Terminator series has had little success in cinemas recently, and films such as Terminator: Genisys (2015) and Terminator: Dark Fate (2019) flopped massively – despite Arnold Schwarzenegger and other prominent cast members. A future in cinemas is therefore (to put it very cautiously) uncertain, but a return to the sci-fi universe will soon be available as an anime series on Netflix.
Terminator Zero, however, does not continue the plot of the films, and neither the Terminator played by Arnie nor John or Sarah Connor will play a role here. Instead, the series tells the story of a soldier who is sent from the future to the year 1997. That is exactly the year in which the AI network Skynet turns against its human creator. The soldier’s mission is quite simple, but nevertheless extremely important, because she is supposed to protect the scientist Malcolm Lee. He is working on a new AI system that is supposed to withstand the attack by Skynet. The problem: Of course, an assassin from the future was sent to murder Malcolm.
Series starts on Judgement Day
Terminator Zero is a joint production by Netflix, Skydance, the Japanese animation studio Production IG (Jin-Roh, Ghost in the Shell), the filmmaker and author Mattson Tomlin (Project Power, Batman: The Imposter), and Masashi Kudō (Chain Chronicle, Bleach).
In the English version, Timothy Olyphant, Rosario Dawson, André Holland, Sonoya Mizuno and Ann Dowd, among others, lend their voices to the characters. The new series will launch worldwide on Netflix with eight episodes on August 29, 2024. The day was of course not chosen entirely by chance, as this is exactly the date on which Judgement Day takes place in the films.
