A strange bug in the latest version of Windows 11 is causing display problems in File Explorer. It can happen under certain circumstances that a menu opens outside of the screen area.
Since the release of Windows 11 24H2, we have been reporting difficulties with Microsoft’s operating system more frequently than usual. So far, everything has been there, from more serious problems such as installation cancellations and blue screens on PCs with SSDs to more curious bugs such as a disappearing mouse cursor and incorrect displays in the task manager.
The more annoying but less serious category of problems now includes a display error in File Explorer. This occurs when users click on the three horizontal dots of the “More Info” button, which is located in the bar at the top of the Explorer window. Then a small menu opens with options to edit or compress a file or folder.
Usually this menu goes down. However, since the update to version 24H2, it opens upwards and therefore protrudes beyond the edge of the file explorer. If it is near the top of the screen or the window is maximized, the menu is outside the visible area or screen. Accordingly, some options cannot be selected. Users then have to move the window.
As already mentioned, this is not a serious problem but rather an inconvenience. At least that applies to users who use the three-dot menu. The majority of users probably access the functions available there via the context menu, which opens with a right-click on the respective file.
Microsoft is facing the problem Windows Latest nevertheless confirmed and announced that they were already working on a fix. This will probably be included in the update that will be released on Patch Day on November 12th. Until then, users who use the menu will inevitably have to position their Explorer window accordingly on their screen.
