New updates for FritzBox 5590 and 5530 Fiber

In addition to the launch of FritzOS 8.0, AVM is announcing new laboratory updates for FritzBox routers with fiber optics. The FritzBox 5590 Fiber and 5530 Fiber models can look forward to a comprehensive update of FritzOS 7.90. Here is an overview of the new features.

The path towards FritzOS 8.0 is being paved

While AVM is already starting to roll out the new FritzOS 8.0, the Berlin IT company is starting to work on further updates for fiber optic FritzBoxes in its own laboratory. Among other things, the routers FritzBox 5590 and 5530 Fiber are being supplied with new FritzOS 7.90 betas. List of improvements is more extensive than expected.

In addition to various bug fixes in the user interface displays, AVM is also taking care of errors in the WireGuard LAN-LAN connections, in the IPv6 settings and inadvertent router restarts in connection with WLAN scans of the 5 GHz band. In addition, there are the usual improvements for system stability and smaller bug fixes, as in the Change log The final release of FritzOS 7.90 or a direct switch to FritzOS 8.0 is also expected soon. After all, the new firmware has already been rolled out for the FritzBox 7590 AX. New FritzOS 7.90 Lab – as of September 17, 2024:

  • FRITZ!Box 5590 Fiber – Version: 7.90-115658
  • FRITZ!Box 5530 Fiber – Version: 7.90-115661

How to get the AVM Lab update

It is important to emphasize that these versions are laboratory firmware. They can be unstable and should therefore only be installed by experienced users on non-critical systems. AVM recommends creating a backup of the current configuration before installation. For those interested, the laboratory versions are available on the AVM website for download The final versions of the FritzOS 7.90 updates are expected to be available to all users in the coming weeks after they have been extensively tested and any errors have been fixed.
