Nintendo brings Joy-Con charging dock – seven years after the launch of the Switch
Nintendo has surprisingly unveiled an official charging dock for the Joy-Con controllers of the Switch game console for the first time. Despite the advanced life cycle of the current Nintendo console, the new accessory product is expected to go on sale in the fall. Nintendo
Actually, the Switch is old hat
Some new announcements are surprising considering the relatively old Nintendo Switch. For example, the Japanese gaming company Nintendo has today announced the so-called Joy-Con Charging Stand (Two-Way) X/Twitter announced, although the Switch has now been on the market for seven years. The charging stand does exactly what its name suggests:
It serves as a holder for one or two Joy-Con controllers when they are to be charged away from the game console. If the console is in its dock, for example, you can set up controllers with the charging stand to charge them. Because the stand is modular, the connector into which the Joy-Cons are inserted on the left and right can also be removed from the stand.
This way, you can hold the controllers in your hand while charging so you can continue to use them in a form factor like a Pro Controller. The charging cable can also be easily removed. Nintendo includes an adapter with every Switch that allows you to combine the Joy-Cons into a larger controller if you want, but this has been missing a USB port since its launch. According to Nintendo, the Joy-Con Charging Stand (Two-Way) will be available in stores from October 17, 2024.
So it will take another three months before the product is actually available. Until then, Switch fans can carry on as before and simply use one of the numerous accessories that have offered exactly this functionality since the Switch was released seven years ago – just without the Nintendo logo. Nintendo has not yet announced a price. Every Switch user has been wondering from the start why this part doesn’t exist. And now Nintendo is bringing it onto the market just before the successor console is due to launch in early 2025? Why?
