Nintendo Switch 2 Has Glaring Design Flaw

After a long wait, Nintendo finally gave the first official look at its new console a few days ago. However, one detail from the video is already worrying many potential buyers. They believe they have discovered a clear vulnerability.

Nintendo has had enough of leaks

The Switch 2 leaks had reached new heights in the weeks before CES 2025. Hardly a day went by without new pictures or other details appearing. Then the presentation of a dummy of the console at the trade fair by accessory manufacturer Genki was the final straw and forced Nintendo to make a statement. As a result, even lawyers are said to have visited Genki’s stand.

About a week later, Nintendo ended all speculation and presented the Switch 2 in an official teaser video. While this didn’t reveal anything about the console’s performance, price, or release date, it did finally reveal the design. Nintendo officially shows the Switch 2 in a video for the first time

Fans fear high susceptibility

It is precisely this video that is now causing heated discussions among fans Reddit. This involves a small part on the console that many fear is particularly sensitive and could therefore break easily and regularly. We’re talking about the connectors between the console and the Joy-Cons.

Although they are framed by the console’s housing, they make a very delicate impression and also protrude far. Even a slight force could cause the plugs to break off.

However, this would only be a danger if the components were made of rigid plastic. Nintendo could also make parts of the connectors out of rubber so that they give way when forces are applied to them. Then there would be no risk of damage.

Learned from mistakes?

What material the parts on the console are made of cannot be seen in the video. However, it would be surprising if Nintendo didn’t learn from the problems with the first version of the Switch. The rigid rails used to attach the Joy-Cons to the console were also one of the more vulnerable components. Of course, this is not a guarantee for rubber plugs on the Switch 2.

There should be official news about the console by April 2, 2025 at the latest. A Nintendo Direct has been announced for this day, at which the Japanese will probably announce the date for the market launch of the Switch 2. The question about the material of the plug connections may then also be clarified. Until then, fans will probably have to worry.
