Nintendo Switch 2 remains in short supply by spring 2026

Nintendo Switch 2 remains in short supply: Analysts predict that the new console will be difficult to be available by spring 2026. The Japanese celebrated the fastest start of console ever, but for most players the big wait now.

Record start with delivery problems

The Nintendo Switch 2 is the new star in the console sky, but for many players it remains an unattainable dream for the time being. According to Japanese financial analysts, the new console is expected to remain in short supply by spring 2026. Despite impressive sales of 3.5 million units in just four days after the launch on June 5, 2025, Nintendo cannot cover enormous demand.

The Switch 2 has sold faster than any other console and not only outperforms its successful predecessor, but can now officially describe itself as the fastest sold console of all time. No Nintendo console has managed to do this before-neither the Wii nor the first switch model. The Nintendo Switch 2 is now available in stores.

Sold out worldwide

The downside of the outstanding demand: The Nintendo Switch 2 is currently sold out in factually all relevant trading partners in Germany – both for senders and Amazon and Otto as well as in stationary retail, for example at Media Markt or Saturn. The same applies to most European countries and the USA – in the branches of Best Buy, Walmart, Target and Gamestop, the console was already out of print on the day of the launch, at the latest on the weekend.

The delivery to the pre -orders also did not work smoothly: the Nintendo Switch 2 partially arrived with a delay – Media Markt offered the affected customers a voucher as compensation. In Japan, retailers intervene for unusual sales methods and introduce lotteries to fairly distribute the limited number of available consoles.

Optimistic market forecasts

According to analysts from Toyo Securities and UBS Securities, Switch 2 could sell between 18 and 20 million units in the current financial year. Nintendo had targeted a paragraph of around 15 million Switch-2 consoles at the end of the current financial year at the end of March 2026. Some market experts consider this forecast to be rather careful in view of the great interest in the device.

As from a forecast by the data company Ampere Analysis emerged more than 13 million Switch 2 consoles are to be sold in the first year alone. The magical 100 million mark is to be cracked in 2029 or 2030 at the latest. The American research company DFC Intelligence goes even further and predicts that the Switch 2 will sell over 100 million units by the end of 2029.

Pricing and market factors

The Nintendo Switch 2 is currently being sold in two versions – once as a console without a game at a list price of 470 euros, on the other hand as bundle including Mario Kart World for 510 euros. Above all, the price of the games ensures some potential buyers. 80 or even 90 euros per game exceeds the pain limit for some players.

In addition, there are still not many exclusive titles. So far, players have to be satisfied with Mario Kart World – and this title is also recorded for many drivers with mixed feelings. Loud Nikkei Asia could also affect political factors to the global sales trend. US President Donald Trump’s customs policy could have an impact on pricing, since Nintendo maintains production facilities in countries such as Vietnam and Cambodia.
