Nintendo Switch Beats PS3 And Xbox 360 In Total Sales
The Nintendo Switch continues to sell well and has climbed the list of top-selling consoles worldwide in the past few months. In the meantime, it has left Nintendo’s oldest hardware, the NES, the Xbox 360, and Playstation 3 behind. The Switch is currently around 89 million units sold – just 12.6 million behind the Wii.
With the Playstation 5 and the Xbox Series X/S, there have also been two new players on the global console market since last autumn. While Sony’s new draft horse has already sold more than ten million units, Microsoft’s new game console is currently around 6.3 million.

Above all, the expectations of the Playstation 5 are high, because all previous consoles have been selling extremely well so far. The Playstation 2 was released in Japan on March 4, 2000. 21 years later, with 155 million units sold, it is still the best-selling game console of all time. Playstation 4 is in second place (116.4 million units sold). And also in third place is a Sony console: The very first Playstation was sold over 102 million times. Only Nintendo’s Wii has been able to compete with the sales figures of the Playstation in recent years and occupies fourth place in the ranking with around 102 million units sold.
