Nokia Announces New Future X Architecture & ReefShark Chipsets for 5G

What is Future X?

It combines high-capacity 5G New Radio, core, and SDN controlled ‘Anyhaul’ transport to offer a full set of network abilities to introduce commercial 5G.

Nokia will be able to achieve high scalability and performance via network architecture and ReefShark chipsets. Nokia’s open machine learning technology offers automation and it delivers Total Cost of Ownership (TCO), saving up to 30%.

On 29th January 2018, Nokia revealed its ReefShark chipsets. The company highlighted the reach of Nokia’s Future X architecture for 5G technology, the foundation of Nokia’s new silicon design & the basis of Nokia’s 5G network along with the service portfolio.

The portfolio will be displayed in Barcelon at Mobile World Congress. It contains a complete end-to-end network that has the ability to deliver triple time more data capacity per cell site. The total of cost of operation also gets 30% lower via artificial intelligence-based automation.

Because of Nokia’s superb ReefShark chipset, the 5G Future X delivers unparalleled baseband performance. Another advantage of ReefShark chipsets is that the size of big MIMO antennas decreases by 50%, increasing the deployment options. The power consumption of baseband units will go down by 64%, which is a huge achievement.

Executive director, Research and Analysis, IHS Markit, Stéphane Téral said, “Nokia has taken a holistic approach with its 5G Future X portfolio in order to drive the performance required by 5G applications. With such a wide breadth of technology and services expertise, it is in a unique position to optimize the operator path to 5G.”

President of Mobile Networks at Nokia, Marc Rouanne said, “With our 5G Future X portfolio we are opening up network data and network intelligence to our customers to jointly program and tailor machine learning and automation that runs on our new silicon. The Future X architecture invented by our Nokia Bell Labs research has made it possible to mix the knowledge across Nokia, between IP, Optics, RF, software and innovative in-house silicon. We now expect to be able to deliver unprecedented capabilities and efficiencies that will allow our customers to transform their service offering for 5G.”
