After years of research work, Facebook and Instagram are now letting hide their ‘Like’ count. Page owners now would have an option to show or hide their ‘Like’ count from posts.
The Royal Society for Public Health UK study concluded that removing the like button or like counts could help reduce anxiety and social pressures for some Facebook and Instagram users. The study was conducted in 2017.
An Instagram spokesperson commented:
We tested hiding like counts to see if it might depressurize people’s experience on Instagram,
What we heard from people and experts was that not seeing like counts was beneficial for some, and annoying to others, particularly because people use like counts to get a sense for what’s trending or popular, so we’re giving you the choice.
Both Facebook and Instagram are now letting you hide ‘like’ counts on all posts in your feed. You can also hide your own like counts via another option. Not only this, but you could also hide like counts on an individual Instagram post if you like to do so. Facebook will get this feature in the next few weeks.
