Nvidia and MediaTek’s ARM Chips for Windows Delayed Until Late 2026

The new, extremely powerful ARM processors for Windows PCs, on which Nvidia works together with Mediatek, are late until at least in late 2026. One of the reasons for this can be found at Microsoft.

A few days ago, it was heard that the first high-end CPUs for AI-capable Windows PCs were only to be expected from Nvidia in the late 2026. A start was originally sought at the beginning of next year, but due to problems with chip design, there should be massive delays. According to a report by the Taiwanese industry service Digitimes, the design problems should not be the only obstacle to overcome the Nvidia and its partner MediaTek before they can compete with their own arm platforms in Windows PCs.

Windows roadmap should slow down nvidia chips

“Delays in Microsoft’s operating system roadmap” also also play a role. Unfortunately, the report leaves open how exactly the factors look like, due to Microsoft’s other problems in the development of the new chips. In his part, Microsoft has to invest in the compatibility of his operating system with the new chips. As in the case of Qualcomm’s ARM SoCs, you probably have to develop specific drivers for every single component of the new Nvidia-based ARM PCs.

In contrast to X86/X64 systems, there are no universal drivers with the ARM chips that support a large number of components at the same time. According to the previous reports, Nvidia, together with Mediatek, is supposed to work on two chips with the n1 and N1X names. Allegedly, these are chips with a total of 20 computing cores, which you want to combine with an Nvidia GPU and a powerful Neural Processing Unit (NPU) for AI calculations. It is said to be a platform with 65 watts of loss, which is to be used in high-end notebooks.
