Nvidia begins building first own AI data center in Germany

Nvidia has now also announced an extensive commitment in Europe, which is probably due to the increasing transatlantic differences. In the course of this, Nvidia’s first data center infrastructure is to be created in Germany.

Cloud for industry

It is about building a cloud platform for artificial intelligence (AI) with an industrial focus, said Nvidia boss Jensen Huang according to the news agency Reuters This Wednesday at the Vivatech technology conference in Paris. This is intended to help AI and robotics and in particular automobile manufacturers such as BMW and Mercedes-Benz to help develop new vehicle models and the optimization of logistical processes. In his presentation, Huang presented a number of European initiatives.

This includes the expansion of technology centers in seven countries, the opening of Nvidia’s compute marketplace for European companies as well as support for multilingual AI models and research in the field of medication development, including for the Danish company Novo Nordisk.

“In just two years, we will become ten times the AI crake capacity in Europe,” said Huang. Europe has recognized how essential AI infrastructure and so-called “Ai factories” are. In total, Nvidia plans 20 such large facilities in Europe, in which AI models are to be developed, trained and implemented. So far, Europe has lagged behind in the development of AI technologies compared to the USA and China. The European Commission announced in March to invest around $ 20 billion in the construction of four AI factories.

Together with Mistral

Another project of Nvidia is the partnership with the French AI company Mistral. Together, the partners want to build a AI right system with 18,000 modern Nvidia chips, especially for European companies. Huang emphasized: “Sovereign AI is essential – no company, no industry and no country can outsource its intelligence.” In addition to AI, Huang also spoke about progress in quantum computing.

This technology is at a turning point and can solve problems in the coming years that would still overwhelm even the most powerful AI systems today. Huang thus relativized earlier statements in which he had only expected the breakthrough for quantum computers in 20 years.
