Nvidia GeForce RTX 5050 starts: Desktop GPU with old GDDR6-VRAM

Suddenly it goes quickly. Today the introduction of the Geforce RTX 5050 has started, which rounds off the Lineup on graphics cards from Nvidia. The first laptops with the mobile version are now being offered, while the desktop edition starts in July.

Mobile version is more modern

After there was initially no official announcement by Nvidia, various PC manufacturers started the introduction of the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5050 graphics card. In China, the USA and some other countries, the first laptops were recently presented by various manufacturers, which will be equipped with the mobile version of the RTX 5050.

The manufacturers are already listing the first laptops that are equipped with an RTX 5050 mobile. For example, MSI brings a variant of the Katana 15 with RTX 5050 for $ 999, in which the new Nvidia GPU with eight Gigabyte GDDR7-RAM is installed next to an Intel Core i7-14650HX, 16 GB RAM and a 144-Hertz screen.

Mobile with 115W TDTP, desktop variant with 130W TDP

There are also some specific technical data for the mobile edition of the RTX 5050. The graphics chip used here will come up with 2560 Cuda-Cores and have a TDP of 115 watts. The GDDR7 memory is probably connected here by means of a 128-bit interface, which results in a theoretical range of 384 GB/s. There are no good news for interested customers among the owners of desktop PCs around the RTX 5050.

In advance, there were rumors that Nvidia could rely on old GDDR6 memory – which now also come true. Nonsensically, Nvidia uses the old memory when it comes to the desktop edition, while the mobile version comes with the faster, new GDDR7-VRAM. The number of cuda cores remains unchanged in the desktop version, whereby Nvidia speaks of a base clock of the GPU of at least 2.31 gigahertz. The TDP is specified for this output with 130 watts, which means that the power supply can be done via a single 8-pin connection. The official retail price for the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5050 for desktop is $249. The availability should be given from the second half of July.
