With the Odyssey Neo G8, Samsung is presenting a new gaming monitor with a 32-inch diagonal and curved mini-LED panel at CES 2022. It is one of the first of its kind to combine 4K resolution with up to 240 Hz and a 1 ms response time. Aside from announcing the first details of new Samsung TVs with micro-LED and mini-LED technology, the South Korean company is presenting its new Odyssey Neo G8 (model name: G85NB) in the run-up to the consumer electronics show. The “more compact” 32-inch model follows the Odyssey Neo G9, which was introduced last year with a 49-inch diagonal at a price point above 2500 euros. Accordingly, the new G8 inherits the design language and the “core lighting” on the back of its big brother.
Technically, the Odyssey Neo G8 uses a modern mini LED panel with a 4K resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels, a maximum refresh rate of 240 Hz, and a response time (GtG) of just one millisecond. Furthermore, the comparatively strongly curved monitor (1000R) supports the Quantum HDR 2000 technology with a peak brightness of 2000 nits. According to initial information, the static contrast ratio should be 1,000,000: 1. According to various Media reports The gaming monitor will be compatible with Nvidia’s G-Sync as well as AMD’s FreeSync Premium Pro and will have two HDMI 2.1 interfaces in addition to DisplayPort 1.4. Samsung has so far not provided a detailed datasheet for the Odyssey Neo G8, nor has it provided any information on availability and price. However, one can assume that the recommended retail price of the gaming monitor is well above the 1000 euro mark. More information is expected during the CES week at various Samsung keynotes, which will take place, among other things, in the night from Tuesday to Wednesday.
