Of all social media platforms, TikTok has the most harmful content per user

According to the information unveiled by a new study, TikTok holds the most harmful content among the several other social media platforms. In 2022, TikTok discovered around 400 million pieces of content that were actioned (either removed or covered with a warning). The content was reportedly against the community guidelines, with US users committing the most violations. The next spot in the list of most harmful content is occupied by Facebook and Instagram.

By the report by Uswitch.com, last year the company acted against 412.8 million videos over policy violations. It amounts to 37,798 videos actioned per 100,000 users. Minor Safety, Illegal Activities, and Adult Nudity and Sexual Activities are the policies that are most frequently broken. Additionally, the TikTok policies against bullying and harassment, dangerous challenges and acts, and hateful behavior are routinely broken.

The report further elaborates on the harmful content posted from different regions. As per the report, US users are on the top when it comes to breaking policy guidelines. In 2022, 13 million TikTok videos uploaded from the US were determined to be against the community standards of the firm. Pakistani users posted 12.6 million and Indonesian users posted 7.6 million violent videos on the platform last year.

Besides India and China, the US, Indonesia, and Pakistan are the most heavily populated countries in the world. The Indian government has completely banned the app. On the other hand, the app is available under a different name i.e., Douyin in China. In addition to this, the US government is constantly debating the matter whether TikTok should be banned in the country or not. Montana has banned the social media app across its state.
