A recent report from DigiTimes indicates that the Cupertino-based tech company will release two new iPad Pro models in late 2024. Interestingly, the report suggests that the company will debut 11-inch and 13-inch models with OLED displays. The recent report draws on references from supply chain sources. According to the report, the company’s suppliers have already begun to increase touchscreen panel capacity in order to prepare for the launch.
The report indicates that the new iPad Pro models will feature hybrid OLED displays. Hybrid displays are a combination of flexible and hard materials. Such a combination display can provide a thin and light design appeal compared to what is already featured on the current models.
Besides this, it will combine several unique and advanced features to the upcoming iPad Pro models like improved color accuracy, a high contrast ratio, and increased brightness. Notably, such display panels can contribute to low power consumption in contrast to the current models that accompany LCD panels. Besides this, Apple is utilizing OLED displays for the current iPhone and Apple Watch series. Do note that the company doesn’t use it for the lower-end iPhone SE.
Apple introduced ProMotion on iPad Pro models in 2017. It features a variable refresh rate between 24Hz and 120Hz. Utilizing an OLED display in an iPad Pro model will further reduce the refresh rate to 10Hz or even lower to save battery life. Interestingly, during always-on display mode, the iPhone 14 Pro models feature a refresh rate of 1Hz.
Right now, we have an iPad Pro with a 12.9-inch display, so the upcoming 13-inch will be slightly larger. Some reports even suggest that the company intends to reduce the bezel size on future iPad Pro models. However, it is uncertain whether the company will employ this on these models or not. Besides this, the report suggests that the company will stop manufacturing current iPad Pro models with mini-LED backlighting by mid-next year. So, we will eventually be left without a low-cost option.
Until now, we have come across several reports that indicate that Apple will debut new iPad Pro models with OLED displays next year. According to a report shared by The Elec, mass production is expected to begin by H1 2024, and the models could arrive by March or June. Some sources claim that the upcoming iPad Pro models will feature an M3 chip and a refurbished Magic keyboard with a big trackpad and an aluminum body.
