One UI 6.1.1 update causes camera issues

Several Galaxy S23 Ultra owners are complaining about poor image quality in photos they took after upgrading to the latest One UI version. This is said to lead to so-called ghosting. Samsung is already working on a solution to the problem.

More devices receive One UI 6.1.1

One UI 6.1.1 was initially only available on the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6. The two folding phones come with the current version of the user interface from the factory. Distribution for the Galaxy S24 series then started at the beginning of September. The update is now also available for the Galaxy S23 smartphones. However, One UI 6.1.1 is now causing problems with the Galaxy S23 Ultra.

Ghosting in zoomed images

Owners of the smartphone report blurry images and ghosting, both of which occur when taking pictures with Samsung’s own camera app at a zoom between 16x and 19.9x. Ghosting describes a situation in which unwanted objects appear in an image because the light is reflected multiple times by the different lenses in the camera.

How SamMobile reported, the problem could be reliably replicated on a test device. Incidentally, no ghosting occurs at 20x zoom. However, as images show, the effect is very pronounced at lower zoom levels.

Samsung is working on a fix

Like X-users Tarun Vats in a post on the platform, Samsung has now confirmed the problem, as shown by a moderator’s post in a community forum. He said they are working on offering a solution as quickly as possible. However, the moderator did not provide any information about the cause of the ghosting and blurriness in the images.

Delay in One UI 7

One UI 6.1.1 is the last minor update to the smartphone user interface before Samsung makes major changes to the design with One UI 7. The update, which will be released on the manufacturer’s smartphones at the same time as Android 15, was supposed to start on July 29th. But then there was a short-term postponement.

The reasons given were both delays in Samsung’s internal schedule and bugs. At the moment, the focus is on the distribution of One UI 6.1.1. Only when this has been completed completely and successfully will they return to version 7. It is currently still uncertain when the completely revised version of the user interface with Android 15 will be available for Galaxy owners.
