OnePlus 12 (24GB RAM) might not be available in US

The OnePlus 12 isn’t really a mystery, given that it was revealed earlier this month in its native market of China. Since then, we’ve discovered that the smartphone will be available internationally including the United States on January 23, as well as some other details. New information has emerged on the storage and RAM configurations that will be included in the global release of the OnePlus 12.
According to prolific leaker Ishan Agarwal, the Indian version of the OnePlus 12, the same global variation that will be offered in the US — will be available in two RAM and storage combinations. It’s worth noting that the basic variant with 12GB of RAM would be a first for OnePlus’ worldwide flagship, with the preceding OnePlus 11 only providing an 8GB model at launch.
If Agarwal’s information is correct, the version with 24GB of RAM and 1TB of storage announced during the OnePlus 12’s China debut will be exclusive to the area. This exclusivity will be nothing new to the business and is to be expected. The leaker also mentions two color options for global markets, Silky Black and Flowy Emerald, with no mention of the white OnePlus 12 that was showed off during the phone’s introduction in China earlier this month.
There is some enthusiasm surrounding the global launch of the cheaper of the two OnePlus devices. The company has previously stated that it will launch in the United States, a first for its ‘R’ line of phones. While plenty of leaks have already given us a good idea of what to expect from this more affordable OnePlus flagship, hardware confirmation could come as early as Thursday, January 4, 2024, when the company is expected to launch the Chinese version of the OnePlus 12R, known as the OnePlus Ace 3 in the region.
There are some significant hardware variations between the OnePlus 12R and the ordinary OnePlus 12. For example, although the OnePlus 12 will use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC, the 12R will use the still-decent Snapdragon 8 SoC.
OnePlus will also make camera concessions, with the R variant sporting a 50MP primary camera with 8MP ultrawide and 2MP macro sensors. In comparison, the basic OnePlus 12 will include a 50MP f/1.6 primary shooter with OIS, a more competent 48MP f/2.2 ultrawide sensor, and a 64MP f/2.6 telephoto sensor (3X), both with OIS.
