OnePlus 15 Leaps to 165 Hz Display, Ditches Hasselblad Partnership

OnePlus plans a refresh rate of 165 Hz for his upcoming flagship OnePlus 15 – significantly more than the most common 120 Hz. The smartphone is to be released in China in October and skipped the model number 14.
Jump to 165 Hz announced
OnePlus prepares the launch of his next flagship and is planning a clear leap in display technology. The OnePlus 15 is to be equipped with a refresh rate of 165 Hz – a considerable progress compared to the 120 Hz currently usual at Premium smartphones. This higher frequency promises more liquid animations and an improved gaming experience – but should of course also go to the battery life (OnePlus wants to do so).
The announcement was carried out indirectly via Li Jie, the president of OnePlus China, who commented on the Chinese social media platform Weibo. According to OnePlus, it is an important step to improve mobile user experience. With this technology, the company would like to play a pioneering role in the smartphone industry again.
Third generation BoE display
The planned 6.78-inch display of the OnePlus 15 is said to offer a 1.5 K resolution and are based on a third generation BoE Oriental screen. OnePlus advertises this panel as one of the most progressive display in the smartphone industry. The high refresh rate will not be active continuously, but will be used in terms of situation – for example in gaming or with fast scroll movements. This adaptive technology is intended to help optimize energy consumption. While standard applications continue to run with lower frequencies, the system switches to the maximum 165 Hz if necessary.
The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 is expected as the heart of the OnePlus 15, accompanied by up to 16 GB RAM and a TB memory. The planned 7000 mAh battery with 120-watt fast charging technology is particularly remarkable. Despite the high capacity, the additional weight should be minimal – a technical feat that is made possible by new battery technologies. The combination of a powerful processor and large battery aims to ensure a full-day term even if the 165 Hz function is used intensively. The quick charging technology should also enable short loading times.
Farewell to Hasselblad
With the OnePlus 15, the company ends its partnership with Hasselblad and instead relies on its own camera engine called Detailmax. The camera system consists of three 50 megapixel sensors: a main camera with optical image stabilization, an ultra-wake angle lens and a periscope telecamination with triple enlargement.
This decision marks a strategic change towards more independence in camera development. OnePlus would like to take control of the entire image processing chain and carry out specific optimizations for your own hardware.
Market start and model number
The OnePlus 15 is to be presented in China in October, followed by a global launch in the first quarter of 2026. The skipping of the model number 14 – a phenomenon that is due to the tetraphobia, which is widespread in parts of Asia. The number four are considered an accident there because it is pronounced in Chinese similar to the word for “death”.
The smartphone will be available in three color variants: original sand dune in Titan, absolute black in black and manure purple in purple. With 211 grams, the titanium variant should be a little easier than the other two versions, each with 215 grams. These weight differences result from the different materials of the back.
