OpenAI Introduces ChatGPT Safari Extension as Default Search Engine

OpenAI has rolled out a new update to its ChatGPT app, introducing a Safari Extension that lets you set ChatGPT as the default search engine for all searches made through the Safari search bar.

To enable this feature, simply update your ChatGPT app to the latest version and head to the Safari section in the Settings app. There, you can turn on the ChatGPT Search Extension, which will redirect all search queries from the Safari search bar to ChatGPT Search instead of Google or any other default search engine you may have set.

Once activated, the extension ensures that queries typed into Safari are processed through ChatGPT Search. The same policies governing your use of ChatGPT apply.

For the extension to work, it requires permission to access your current default search engine’s site (such as Google.com). Once granted, the extension redirects your searches to ChatGPT’s search feature, bypassing your previously set search engine in Safari.

With this update, you can now enjoy the capabilities of ChatGPT as your go-to search tool right from Safari on iOS. Just update to the latest version of the ChatGPT app and enable the Safari extension to get started.

There is currently no direct option to set ChatGPT as a preferred search engine in Safari, but this extension acts as a handy workaround.
