OpenAI to Launch AI-Powered Web Browser to Compete with Google Chrome

Openai plans to start your own AI-based web browser, which is scheduled to appear in the coming weeks. The browser is positioned as a direct competition with Google Chrome and could change the type of surfing – but also the free web.
AI giant challenges Chrome
Openai is about to publish the currently clear market leader Google Chrome. According to several sources, the AI-supported browser should come onto the market in the coming weeks. With this strategic decision, the company behind Chatgpt wants to fundamentally change the way users are on the Internet through the use of artificial intelligence. The new browser from Openaai is expected to offer a chatgt-like user interface that enables users to carry out certain interactions directly within the browser without having to click on external websites.
The planned integration of OpenAis AI agents such as “operator” are particularly interesting who can perform tasks and reservations or fill out forms – everything on behalf of the user and directly in the browser. Artificial intelligence: AI investments decrease, generative AI explodes like Reuters reports, the browser is part of an Openai strategy to integrate its services more into everyday life and professional life of the users.
The browser will of course integrate Openais Search Service Searchgpt centrally, which is the logical next step. In the past, the company had already tried to gain access to Google’s search data to improve Searchgpt, which Google rejected. With its own browser, Openai could now get direct access to exactly the web search data that Google could not get.
Chromium as a basis
Technically, the planned browser is based on Google’s open source project Chromium, which also forms the basis for Chrome, Microsoft Edge and Opera. The browser could feel familiar to users while at the same time offers AI-specific functions. Unlike some competitors who have developed AI tools as browser extensions or add-ons, Openai chose an independent browser. The browser should keep some user interactions within Chatgpt instead of linking to external websites.
This is an approach that the supporters of an open web will certainly criticize. Google will certainly not be pleased: Chrome is an important pillar of alphabet advertising business, which is almost three quarters of the company’s sales. The browser delivers valuable user information that Alphabet uses for more targeted and more profitable advertising.
Data protection and AI integration
The deep integration of AI in web browser also raises important questions about data protection. Extensive user data could be used to train AI algorithms, which could potentially lead to abuse or use of personal information. However, Openai emphasizes that data protection is a priority and is planning more transparent data processing.
