Opera Launches Opera Air: A Browser for Mindfulness and Wellbeing

Norway-based Opera has introduced a new browser, Opera Air, designed to prioritize mental wellbeing and mindfulness in an increasingly chaotic digital world. The browser comes packed with features like break reminders, breathing exercises, and relaxing soundscapes aimed at helping users focus and de-stress.

“The web is beautiful but it can be chaotic and overwhelming,” says Mohamed Salah, Opera’s senior director of product. “We decided to look at science-backed ways to help our users navigate it in a way that makes them feel and function better.”

Mindfulness at the Core

Opera Air introduces a sleek, semi-transparent design and a floating sidebar dedicated to its mindfulness tools. The sidebar provides quick access to features like soundscapes, break reminders, and guided meditations.

Focus with Boosts

When it’s time to work, Opera Air’s “Boosts” feature offers a curated selection of music, ambient sounds, and binaural beats. These beats—created by playing slightly different frequencies in each ear—are believed to encourage relaxation or focus. You can set these soundscapes to play for as little as 15 minutes or have them run continuously, with easy pause options right in the sidebar.

Break Reminders

To help users take mindful breaks, the browser includes a subtle Break Reminder. This feature appears as an icon in the sidebar, gradually fading while you work. Once it fully fades, it’s time for a break. The duration is fully customizable, and when it’s time to step away, Opera Air offers tools like breathing exercises, neck stretches, body scans, and guided meditations, all ranging from quick refreshers to 15-minute sessions.
