Oppo caught cheating on benchmark testing scores

Oppo has been recently caught cheating on benchmarks according to Engadget, the UL Benchmarks has unlisted Oppo’s Find X and F7 smartphones from its 3DMark charts after testing itself.

Tech2 has unveiled that both devices Oppo Find X and F7 were increasing the processor performance artificially when they detected the test by name. Oppo said the company has always stacked things up when it detected “games or 3D benchmarks which requires high performance” Oppo also claimed that any app would run full scale if you tap on the screen every few seconds to signal your actions.

UL, however, rejected Oppo’s justifications, they said it was evident that Oppo was looking for the benchmark by name and not the extra processing load involved. Secondly, tapping would not be an effective solution if Oppo treated all apps equally—you could not get consistent results.

Huawei Caught cheating on performance benchmarks

Oppo, however, did not clearly promise that it will stop cheating in future, but the company said it was planning on upgrading the system.

We have seen Samsung, HTC and Huawei all the big names caught cheating before and now it’s becoming a norm if others can do it we can also do it. UL’s decision might not help companies to change their behavior and submit honest results but it would definitely highlight the malpractice going on in the industry.
