OPPO is Working on its In-house Built Chips

As the demand for smartphones is rising, the smartphone makers’ biggest hurdle has become the availability of chipsets to power their devices. Keeping that in mind, many companies have started to develop their own chipsets. Apple, Samsung, and Google are a few such smartphone makers. And OPPO is joining them soon.

According to a news leak from The Verge, “Oppo is developing its own high-end chips for flagship mobile phones.” Although these chips or Oppo smartphones with in-house-built SoCs might not come this year. We heard from the same source that the company might release these chips by 2023 or 2024.

Oppo will “use TSMC’s advanced 3nm process technology for the chips.” If the company succeeds in its process, the company would become one of the top smartphone makers with its own SoCs. The company is currently employing Qualcomm and MediaTek chips.

Google also released its first series of in-house-built SoCs – the Google Pixel 6 series. The chips they call are Tensor and built on 5nm process. Xiaomi also developed its own SoC, but it was a low-end SoC – the Surge S1 – and not intended for flagship devices.
