Pakistan to take IT exports to $7 billion in 5 years

Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, the Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication said on Monday that the information technology (IT) sector would bring a change in Pakistan, so it is a need and a right time to digitalize the country.

Federal IT Minister was talking to the media during his visit to the Virtual University, he said that through the software development, our country was earning more than one billion dollars per annum and this earning could be increased more than seven billion dollars per annum in the next five years.

“In today’s world, everything can now be done through the mobile devices; the federal government is trying to reduce the mobile phones’ price besides providing Wi-Fi without any cost,” the federal minister added.

During the media talk, he said that the Virtual University (VU) was working under the Ministry of Information Technology, which was a world within itself. “We have discussed the measures to end the poverty and illiteracy in Pakistan,” he added.

The federal minister further urged the management of the Virtual University to come forward to explore the talent of the youth of the country. While answering to a question, he said that and equal importance should be given to all languages in Pakistan for comprehensive improvements.

“China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) would be proven very helpful in boosting the information technology sector of Pakistan and a huge investment would come in Pakistan through it,” Dr Khalid Maqbool added.
