Panasonic Drowsiness Control Technology Will Be The Future Of Cars

Panasonic has developed a new technology which uses contactless sensing to measure driver’s state in the vehicle and control it to avoid any collision that might come.

According to Panasonic official news, the company has announced on July 27 that they have developed a drowsiness control technology for vehicles which detects and predicts the level of drowsiness and enable drivers to stay awake comfortably.

The technology prevents drowsy driving and detects drivers drowsiness, the uses contactless sensing through an in-car camera which takes images, record facial expressions, eye blinking and processes them using Artificial Intelligence. The technology also predicts transition in drowsiness level, further it also monitors thermal sensation monitoring function which enables the driver to stay awake while driving.

Features better than conventional systems

The technology has 3 major features;

1 detects shallow drowsiness by processing blinking and facial expressions

2 Collects in-car environment data to predict transitions in the level of drowsiness

3 Senses and monitors the thermal sensation allowing driver to stay comfortably awake

Panasonic claims that the older technologies faced difficulties in predicting driver transitions in drowsiness, these systems used alarms, sounds and vibrations to wake the drivers up which could make them feel uncomfortable and sometimes dangerous upon sudden awake.

Panasonic’s new technology would be available for sampling by October 27.

Panasonic efficiently detects the level of drowsiness in drivers by processing in-depth details and key indicators, the sensors collect a large amount of data and process it with AI in order to come up with accurate predictions, the current level of drowsiness and future expectations. While using this technology there are several measures that can be taken, the drivers can be prompted to change their in-vehicle environment well before time, the drivers can also be prompted to increase the level of eye blinking to stay awake or take a break and have a cup of coffee or even increase the volume of sounds inside the vehicle.
