Photos & Specs of the first 360-degree camera from DJI leaked

DJI could soon get into the market for 360-degree cameras with the OSMO 360. Numerous leaked photos and documents show a prototype that could challenge competitors such as Insta360 and GoPro. However, the start is certainly not.

Leave pictures reveal Djis first 360-degree camera

DJI seems to be about to enter the market for 360-degree action cameras. In the past few days, several leaves have published various pictures of a prototype of the camera that has so far been unannounced and known as DJI OSMO 360. The photos show both the exterior and the interior of the device, and there are excerpts from the alleged user manual.

The prototype has a square design that is strongly reminiscent of the GoPro Max, combined with elements from Dji’s own OSMO action series. With a width of around 6.5 centimeters and nine centimeters, the camera is more compact than the elongated models of Insta360. The images show three control buttons for on/off, recording and menu control as well as a touchscreen.

Technical details and market positioning

Particularly interesting: The OSMO 360 apparently uses the same 1950 mAh battery as the current OSMO action cameras, including the Action 5 Pro. Internally, the construction is similar to the Insta360 devices, in which the light hits the sensor via a 45-degree mirror instead of placing the sensor directly behind the lens. How Dronexl Citing X-users Hakasushi reports, according to the leaked manual extracts, the camera has a microSD card slot, a USB-C connection as well as WLAN 6 and Bluetooth 5.1.

Uncertain future

Despite the advanced development, it is unclear whether DJI will actually launch the OSMO 360. The camera manufacturer would therefore enter an already contested segment in which the GoPro Max and Insta360 X5 are offered. The current market situation and especially the US tariffs on Chinese products could also endanger the market launch.

The story of DJI in the action camera segment is also quite changeable. After the first attempt with Osmo Action in 2019, which competed against the then GoPro Hero 6, the action 2. Only with the OSMO Action 3 could the Chinese drone specialist really gain a foothold in the action camera market. DJI has continuously expanded its portfolio in recent years.

The company from Shenzhen, founded in 2006, today dominates the global drone market with a market share of over 70 percent. The diversification towards action cameras began in 2019, and a 360-degree camera would be a logical expansion of the product range.
