Pixel 7: first display details of the new Google smartphones

While Google’s new Pixel 6 smartphones are selling well and the internet company is preparing to introduce the cheaper Pixel 6a model, there are now first details about the plans for the Google Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro. As a display specialist and boss of the consultancy Display Supply Chain (DSCC) Ross Young wants to know, Google plans to downsize the base model for next-generation devices. However, the difference in size should only be small.

Smaller display but no return of the compact model

Presumably, unlike its predecessor, which featured a 6.4-inch display, the Google Pixel 7 will only have a 6.3-inch screen diagonal. So the panel shrinks slightly, which could especially appeal to customers who are looking for a somewhat more compact smartphone. A return to a significantly smaller form factor for the base model of the Pixel series is apparently not planned. With the Pixel 5, Google still had a six-inch screen after the Pixel 4 had a 5.7-inch panel.

According to Young, nothing should change in terms of screen size on the top model, or the future Google Pixel 7 Pro. It will reportedly remain diagonal at 6.7 inches. As for the schedule for the launch of the new Pixel 7 series, there is no precise information yet. Young only says that the start of production for the panels has been brought forward by a month and should therefore take place from May.

However, this does not mean that Google is also bringing forward the launch date, but it could also be because Google wants to stock larger quantities in the run-up to the launch so that there are no delivery problems as there used to be recent.
