Pixel 8 Camera Information Has Surfaced

Google has a hole. In any case, all sorts of details about the new smartphones in the Pixel 8 series are gradually leaking. After details about the Tensor G3 recently leaked, there is now information about the camera equipment – which brings a new main sensor from Samsung.

As the developer Kamila Wojciechowska reports in an article for Android Authority, citing reliable sources from within Google, the Internet company wants to use the Samsung Isocell GN2 camera sensor for the Pixel 8 and the Pixel 8 Pro in the future, which offers a resolution of 50 megapixels. The chip replaces the predecessor Samsung GN1, which was used in the Pixel 7 series.

Samsung also supplies the sensor for the telephoto zoom camera in the Google Pixel 8 Pro, which will be the Samsung GM5. This offers 48 megapixels and a five-fold optical magnification since Google has again installed periscope-like optics here. The Google Pixel 8 Pro will also feature a 64-megapixel Sony IMX787 camera sensor, which will be used for the ultra-wide-angle camera.

In addition, the Pro model also has a time-of-flight sensor with 64 pixels and an infrared thermometer from the supplier Melexis, with which, as was already seen a few weeks ago, you can measure your body temperature according to Google’s will should. The cheaper and smaller Pixel 8 also has an integrated ToF sensor, but it only has a single sensor point.

In addition, the well-known Sony IMX386 camera sensor with 12 megapixels is used for the ultra wide-angle camera instead of the IMX787. The zoom camera is absent from the regular Pixel 8. For the front cameras, Google uses a Samsung 3J1 camera sensor with 11 megapixels in both models.

As usual, Google wants to use the software as a tool for better quality in its camera system in the Pixel 8 series smartphones. Among other things, users benefit from scene fragmentation for AI-supported image optimization in certain areas of a motif. In addition, the brightness of the LED flash should be optimized for the conditions of each photo in order to avoid overexposed photos and videos.
