Pixel phones will come with a document scanner built inside the Files by Google app

According to some recent pieces of information, Files by Google app will soon receive a new feature. Reportedly, a new document scanner will be rolled out. However, the feature will be exclusive to Pixel devices. This information comes from Mishaal Rahman. It appears to be server-side update. It means that users won’t be required to download a new version of the app. Currently, the feature is available on version 1.2729.610141523.0 of the Files by Google app on Pixel phones.

Once the feature rolls out, a new ‘Scan’ button will appear on the bottom right corner of the app’s screen. It can be used to scan a document by placing it in front of the back camera of the Pixel smartphone. Users have two options to scan a document. They can either scan it manually or auto-capture it. There are several editing options like crop, rotate, clean, and add filters to the scans.

Similar to other document scanning apps, the scanner in Files by Google enables users to merge different scans in one document. As soon as the scan is complete, users can save digitized documents in the “scanned’ folder as PDFs. Besides this new option, another document scanner is already a part of the Google Drive app. The newly added feature in Files By Google functions similarly, identifying and handling documents directly on the device.
