Public Trials of 5G Technology in Pakistan Expected in 2019 – PTA

A draft framework has been unveiled by Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) for starting out 5G public trials in Pakistan in 2019. In the draft framework, the development, and test of future technologies is highlighted including the development of 5G wireless technology in Pakistan.

Due to the growing mobile data traffic along with increasing demands from the consumers, 5G technology is essential, as stated by Pakistan Telecommunication Authority.

PTA stated, “Seen as a comprehensive wireless-access solution with the capacity to address the demands and requirements of mobile communication beyond IMT-2020, it is projected that this technology will operate in a highly heterogeneous environment and provide ubiquitous connectivity for a wide range of devices, new applications, and use cases.”

Radio Communication Sector of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) has coined a term IMT-2020 for the vision IMT for 2020 and beyond.” IMT is for International Mobile Telecommunications.

In Pakistan the PTA has highlighted the IMT-2020 scope more than that of the previous mobile telecommunication generations. ITU has made certain progress in working to design the IMT-2020 specifications. It has jointly collaborated with different 5G investors and stakeholders. PTA feels that IMT-2020 will be the foundation of future Agenda for Sustainable Development 2030 goals.
