Qualcomm Launches 732G SoC For High-end Midrange Gaming Devices

Qualcomm has presented a new SoC (System on a Chip) for the high-end midrange smartphone, the Snapdragon 732G. The chip forge promises above all higher gaming performance for attractively priced devices.

Qualcomm’s new mid-range SoC Snapdragon 732G is an improved version of the Snapdragon 730G, which is currently used in the Google Pixel 4a, for example. There are no great improvements, but the manufacturer has tweaked both the clock rates of the CPU and the GPU.

More graphics performance and a bit more CPU power

The graphics unit of the new Qualcomm concept remains identical to the Snapdragon 730G, the Adreno 618. In the Snapdragon 732G, however, the GPU is supposed to deliver around 15 percent higher performance when calculating 3D worlds thanks to unspecified adjustments. Also new with regard to the image output is the support of 30-bit color depth or one billion colors. Qualcomm has only made this feature available exclusively on its more expensive high-end chips.

When it comes to the CPU, the Snapdragon 732G only differs slightly from the 730G. A core cluster consisting of two Kryro 470 gold cores (performance) and four Kryo 470 silver cores (energy efficiency) remains, with one of the gold cores now functioning as the prime core in the 732G. This means that the core can achieve a maximum clock rate of 2.3 instead of 2.2 gigahertz.

No 5G, but fast LTE in Snapdragon 732G

According to the official datasheet, there are no other innovations for the Snapdragon 732G apart from the CPU and GPU adjustments. So it remains with the production in the 8-nanometer process and the support of LPDDR4X RAM with up to 1866 megahertz and a dual-camera system by the Spectra-350-ISP. In addition, further integrated Snapdragon X15 modem is used, which LTE Advanced with offers up to 800 megabits per second downstream and 150 megabits per second upstream.

According to Qualcomm, the first buyer of the new Snapdragon 732G is the Xiaomi subsidiary Poco the company has introduced Poco X3 with this chip. When, however, with an Android smartphone equipped in this way is to be expected from the company and the name under which it is to come onto the market is not clear from the information available to date.
