We already know Qualcomm is bringing a new high-end chipset this year. The company will officially announce it on November 30, almost a week to go. Ahead of its release, the company shared some changes, including its branding strategies, and shared the name it intends to give the new chipset.
Interestingly, what we have been calling the new chipset, isn’t actually the Snapdragon 898. The company says from now on it will use, “a single-digit series and generation number.” So the upcoming Snapdragon 898 becomes the Snapdragon 8 Gen1. The next one would be the Snapdragon 8 Gen2, following the same trend until the company changes its branding strategy again.
This new branding strategy is for the top-tier SoCs. We aren’t sure what the company will do to the mid-rangers and the lower-end chipsets.
The company has also separated the company’s name from the name of the chipset. So you won’t see Qualcomm and Snapdragon altogether. The company will use Snapdragon for specific products, while Qualcomm for others.
We also won’t be seeing the “5G” suffix with chipset names. The company is now committed to producing only 5G chipsets.
We expect more changes but will have to wait till November 30, on the big day for Qualcomm.
Previously we confirmed a few names featuring the Snapdragon 898 SoC. These included the:
These devices may still come with the latest Snapdragon SoC, but it won’t be named the same. It would be the Snapdragon 8 Gen1.
