Reddit Posts 78% Revenue Surge, Targets Search Engine Market

Can Reddit Google replace as a search engine? The community platform records 78 percent sales growth and plans to fundamentally revise its search function and to force its use. However, it will only become apparent whether this succeeds.

Reddit relies on search function

In the second quarter of 2025, Reddit recorded a sales jump from 78 percent to $ 500 million and at the same time positioned itself as a serious alternative to established search engines. CEO Steve Huffman and the management team have a clear vision: The platform should become the first point of contact for users who are looking for authentic answers. In any case, the current quarterly report shows that 70 million users are already using Reddit’s search function, while the AI -based Reddit Answers now has six million weekly users – a significant increase compared to the first million in the first quarter. These figures illustrate the growing interest in the platform as a source of information.

Standardization of the search functions planned

The company is planning a strategic realignment of its search products. As from the letter to shareholder (PDF), Reddit wants to merge his conventional search function with Reddit Answer to a uniform system.

According to Huffman, the motivation behind this strategy is obvious: Many users are already hanging the word “Reddit” on their Google views in order to find authentic discussions and experiences of real people. This practice shows that Reddit is often perceived as a trustworthy source for user -generated content. In fact, this phenomenon is so widespread that Google itself prefers to treat Reddit content in its search results.

Challenges in the search engine market

However, Reddit faces considerable challenges. The dependence on Google traffic fluctuates weekly and represented a “headwind” in the past quarter. At the same time, the search behavior of the users changes through AI-based tools such as chatt and perplexity, which provide answers directly instead of referring to external websites. Reddit wants the best of both worlds himself: The company argues that AI can process knowledge but cannot invent – and this is exactly where Reddits is strength with its millions of user contributions and discussions. The platform, which was founded in 2005 by Steve Huffman and Alexis Ohanian, has developed from a simple link aggregator to one of the most influential discussion platforms on the Internet.

International expansion

International growth in particular, especially in Europe, shows positive developments. Reddit plans to roll out Reddit Answers globally and to get the search function more at the center of the user experience. Sentence that increasingly gains value in times of AI generated content.
