Report: iPhone 16 Will Not Support Touch ID

According to a new report, the iPhone 16 won’t arrive with support for Touch ID. Touch ID is a fingerprint authentication technology. The information was shared by an integrated circuit expert on Weibo. The tipster has previously shared a lot about Apple’s plans.

The majority of the original machinery used to produce the chips needed for the iPhone’s version of Touch ID, according to a new post, has reportedly been permanently shut down. The remaining machinery is reportedly being used for the third-generation iPhone SE. This indicates that Apple does not currently have any plans to bring back Touch ID as a means of authentication on the iPhone. It’s also important to note that there aren’t any noteworthy or credible rumors indicating that Apple will be bringing back fingerprint scanning for the iPhone 16 series.

In addition to this, some reports indicate that the 4th-generation iPhone SE will arrive with a Face ID feature. Besides this, some reports indicate that the company is working on under-display fingerprint technology that could arrive in 2026—the same period of time that the business purportedly intends to move Face ID beneath the screen of the phone.

In the past, the same source claimed that the iPhone 14 would feature the A15 Bionic chip, whereas the A16 would be used exclusively for the Pro models of the series. Recently, the source claimed that the company is adopting a unique manufacturing process for designing the chips for the upcoming ‌iPhone 16‌ and ‌‌iPhone 16‌‌ Plus. Notably, the manufacturing process will be fundamentally different from the one used for the A17 Pro chips used in the iPhone 15 Pro. The company is adopting this approach to reduce production costs.
