Apple has always been popular in giving its best. But it doesn’t mean that you should always go after the brand. You may also want to know more about the device itself especially when you are paying $1,099. Yes, this device comes for $1,099. This brings us to a quick review of the Apple iPad Pro 2021 (12.9-inch).
Starting with the design, the iPad Pro 2021 is a large slab of 100% recycled aluminum on the sides and back and glass on the front (similar to what we have seen in the past). The volume keys, power key, Apple Pencil dock, and keyboard connector are set in familiar places. On this device, we have four speaker grills and a USB Type-C Thunderbolt port.
In terms of weight, the tablet is heavier at 1.5 pounds (682 grams) for the Wi-Fi model and 1.51 pounds (685 grams) for the Wi-Fi + cellular variant. The device is super thin at just 0.25 inches, or 6.4 mm.
Now comes the display. This 12.9-inch iPad has a better display than the 11-inch iPad Pro. It also features a 120Hz ProMotion display with a P3 wide color gamut, and the picture is sharper due to a higher resolution of 2732 by 2048 pixels. Moreover, this device has a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio and 1600 nits peak HDR brightness.
The 12.9-inch 2021 iPad Pro has a wide 12MP main camera, a 10MP ultra-wide one with a 125° FOV (field of view), a microphone, a LiDAR sensor, and a flash. On the front, we have a 12MP ultra-wide 122° FOV selfie / FaceTime camera, and besides it, we have the Face ID sensor.
The “wide” sensor means you can capture more in the frame of your photos, such as groups of people or large objects.
The device can record videos at up to 4K, 60 FPS (frames per second), and slow-motion videos at 1080p, 240 FPS.
The device has quad speakers that produce rich, clear stereo sound with a very punchy bass. Watching movies on the 12.9-inch iPad Pro feels like a small, private cinema experience.
This iPad is powered by Apple’s own M1 processor and up to 18GB of RAM and comes with iPadOS 14, which is something we are not very proud of. We were expecting iPadOS 15.
The device still works extremely well if you have bought it for casual use, such as watching Netflix, YouTube, and browsing the internet. It is still good if you’re an artist. And same goes for online students.
Though, for developers, music producers, or other professionals needing serious desktop software, this device might not be a pretty good choice.
This device has a huge 40.88-watt-hour battery, powering the device to last up to 10 hours of continuous use. This is impressive considering the big, bright, and smooth 120Hz display. Coming with the device, we have a meter-long USB Type-C charging cable and a 20W USB-C power adapter.
